White/Light - Black Acts CD
Second instrumental long-player from the princes of the Chicago drone herd, Jeremy Lemos and Matt Clark. Brainwave-flattering guitar & analog gadget noise jams, warm on the tails of their highly-praised 2007 collaboration with one-man psych-weirdo Lichens. Said Matt, to his momma: "You know, like Folke Rabe and his kid brother, with Ray-Bans and a Jazzmaster, man. Doesn't that make sense? Isn't that what we need right now?" Yeah, a United State of White/Light sounds alllll right. To be released later in 2008.
SYR 8 'Andre Sider Af Sonic Youth'
This installment of Sonic Youth's series of experimental + mostly instrumental releases will be available July 28 2008 in a CD-only edition self-released on the band's own SYR label.
This disk presents the complete 'Other Sides of Sonic Youth' improvised live performance from the 2005 Roskilde Festival in Denmark, featuring Sonic Youth (with Jim O'Rourke) and guests Swedish saxophonist Mats Gustafsson, and Japanese sound artist Masami Akita (aka Merzbow). The single piece performed was a structured improvisation which for 60 minutes added and subtracted musicians one by one until only Masami was left onstage. Black Sabbath followed. Available here.

Tony Scherr 'Twist in the Wind' CD
Tony's long-awaited sophomore CD is now available. Featuring 13 new songs recorded mostly by Tony in his apartment and featuring Tony's friends and family: Peter Scherr (bass), Kenny Wolleson (drums), Chris Brown (organ) and Michelle Casillas (of Ursa Minor) and Bill Frisell.

SYR 7 Available April 22
The seventh installment of Sonic Youth's series of experimental + sometimes instrumental releases will be available on April 22, 2008 in a vinyl-only edition self-released on the band's own SYR label. The A-side, 'J'accuse Ted Hughes' is a previously unreleased 22 minute drone-piece recorded by Sonic Youth at the All Tomorrows Parties Festival in the UK April 2001. At ATP the band previewed instrumental and early versions of songs from the then soon-to-be recorded 'NYC Ghosts and Flowers' and performed this premiere + exclusive performance of 'J'accuse Ted Hughes'. The B-side, 'Agnes B Musique' is a soundtrack-style piece recorded at the band's own Murray Street Studio in 2001 for a never-to-be realized collaboration with French clothing designer Agnes B. This 18 minute long musical piece was recorded with a 5-piece version of SY, the 4 members of SY being joined by Jim O'Rourke who also mixed 'Agnes B Musique'. Daydream Nation 4xLP Deluxe Edition Now Available
Hailed by Rolling Stone as one of 'The 500 Greatest Albums of All-Time' and honored as one of the first 200 albums chosen by the Library of Congress to be included in the National Recording Registry for their historic, cultural or aesthetic importance, Sonic Youth's Daydream Nation is now available as a super-special 4-disc vinyl set with bonus tracks, new liner notes, and unseen band photos. Christina Rosenvinge's New Release "Continental 62"
"Continental 62 is the flight that connects Newark, NJ, and Madrid, Spain, a route Christina Rosenvinge has become quite familiar with in recent years. Her new album has made the trip several times as well, with basic tracks recorded in Madrid, and overdubs done at studios in Manhattan and Brooklyn. On her third Smells Like Records album -- her second along with 2004's Foreign Land to be released both here and in her native Spain -- she's joined by longtime accomplices Tim Foljahn and Lee Ranaldo on guitar and vocals, rhythm section Jeremy Wilms and Steve Shelley, guests Charlie Bautista on guitar and violin, and well-known Spanish experimentalist turned pop-crafter Suso Saiz, who also co-produces. Of the ten tracks, seven are sung in English, and lyrically Rosenvinge has hit a vital sweet-spot, achieving maximum depth with the simplest language. Her songcraft in general has reached an impressive maturity, with seductive, coiled verses resolving in perfect choruses.
The album's highlights include the gorgeous descending chorus of the title track; the propulsive brushwork and close harmonies of "A Liar to Love"; "Jelly," a wearied and fragile take on the jazz standard; and the prismatic, closing waltz "Nickel Song".

Sonic Youth S/T 2xLP, Ciccone Youth + Thurston Moore 2xLP Vinyl Re-Issued
Sonic Youth's eponymous record has been released as a remastered and expanded 2xLP vinyl edition. Sonic Youth's alter-egos Ciccone Youth have re-issued a remastered vinyl edition of 'The Whitey Album'. Also a special 2xlp vinyl edition of Thurston Moore's "Psychic Hearts' with tracks not available on the CD has been re-issued. All sy records are available here. All three records feature an updated mastering supervised by the band and Sonic Youth's eponymous record features never-before-heard live and studio tracks and notes by drummer Richard Edson, Neutral record label founder Glenn Branca and Byron Coley. SYR 6 Available Now
'Koncertas Stan Brakhage Prisiminimui', the sixth album in the band's Sonic Youth Recordings series, is available now. This CD edition of the SYR series is a recording of the benefit concert held at and for The Anthology Film Archives on April 12, 2003. Sonic Youth performed with drummer / percussionist Tim Barnes. Part of the proceeds of this CD will again benefit the Anthology Film Archives. CD's are available online via the sy.com store.
Anthology Film Archives is an international center for the preservation, study, and exhibition of film and video with a particular focus on American independent and avant-garde cinema and its precursors found in classic European, Soviet and Japanese film. In addition to being a public movie theater, Anthology is a film museum, archive, research library, and art gallery. After 33 years in existence, Anthology remains the only non-profit organization of this type in New York.
