Smells Like Records will present a special night of music during this year's CMJ Festival Sept. 15th at The Living Room in NYC.

The line-up includes smells like records artists and friends : Kieran McGee, Ursa Minor, Smokey's Secret Family (featuring guitarist Smokey Hormell), Chris Lee (with Tim Luntzel and Steve Shelley), Jesse Harris and Tony Scherr.


KIERAN MCGEE (7pm) has a fully-formed American roots sensibility that belies his tender age, with songs that soar majestically skyward to a place somehwere between his Manhattan hometown and the Nashville skyline.

URSA MINOR (7:30pm) is driven by Michelle Casillas, whose singing and songs evoke expansive atmospheres both inside and out-of-body, combining subtle jazz dynamics with the force of the best vocal- driven rock and roll.Michelle is joined by robert Jost on bass and Rob DiPietro on drums.

SMOKEY'S SECRET FAMILY (8:30pm) is led by guitarist Smokey Hormel, who has worked alongside titans such as Beck, Tom Waits, Johnny Cash, and Marianne Faithfull, and includes percussionist Mauro Refosco and multi-instrumentalist Doug Wieselman.

CHRIS LEE (9:30pm) has released three albums since 2000 that feature his unique blend southern soul with postpunk spirit. He has been hailed by Rolling Stone as having "one of the most distinctive voices in indie rock...."

JESSE HARRIS (10:30pm) is a grammy-winning songwriter whose handful of albums showcase his immense talents as a singer and bandleader, and further make the case for a bona fide writer in a relatively tuneless era.

TONY SCHERR (11:30pm-1:30am) writes, performs, and produces superbly crafted songs that manage to marry perfectly both traditional and experimental influences. He has also worked as a guitarist or bassist with Bill Frisell, the Lounge Lizards, and Norah Jones.

Smells Like Records will also be booking Googie's Lounge Upstairs at the Living Room watch for other very special DJ's and surprises to be added in addition to :

Tom Surgal DJ's from 8-10pm

Special guest DJ HAL WILLNER (10pm-12am) has carved himself an utterly unique space in the music business, as a producer of both studio and stage tributes to Monk, Mingus, Ginsberg, Nino Rota, Poe, Kurt Weill, and the Marquis de Sade, among many others, with the help of musicians ranging from Sun Ra to Ringo Starr. He has also produced more "conventional" records for Lou Reed, Laurie Anderson, and serves as the musical director for Saturday Night Live.
